Pacquiao vs Cotto on November 14 at MGM Grand Las Vegas

Pacquiao vs Cotto is now Official. Nick Giongco has just reported from the Manila Bulletin that he has a private conversation via long distance call with Top Rank's head honcho Bob Arum over the weekend. Manny Pacquiao finally agreed to face Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico at a catch weight of 145 lbs.

Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz said “adjustments were made” in the other provisions in the contract and the fight is green and go for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 14.

“Bob is expected to make an announcement within the week,” said Koncz.

Bob Arum has just returned from his three-week vacation in Europe.

Pacquiao, Koncz and lawyer Franklin Gacal had originally planned to fly to the US to meet up with Arum to settle the issue but Koncz said that wouldn’t be necessary since Pacquiao has agreed to the terms. Meanwhile, Pacquiao's schedule is full because of commitment to upcoming movies.

Update: The Philippine Star reported Pacquiao and Arum had a 15-minute phone conversation.

“It’s done,” said Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz. "No contract has been signed but Manny and Bob had a verbal agreement. And we’ve never backed out of any verbal agreement so Bob is happy with that for the time being,” said Koncz.

Update #2: Bob Arum announced the fight:

"It's done. While I was away I reached a verbal agreement with each side. Pacquiao committed to the fight this weekend and Cotto the week before while I was in Israel. I was on the phone all the time trying to get this done."

"Both sides have agreed to the terms. Now we're sending out formal contracts."

"But everything is agreed or I wouldn't say what I am saying. The weight, the percentages, the guarantees - it's all agreed to."

"I'm really excited because it's a real fight. These are two real warriors. Whichever way this fight goes, I think it's going to be a classic because of the way these guys fight. "I want to get it done the week after Labor Day so I don't interfere with the Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight. I don't want [Golden Boy Promotions] saying I jumped them."

"Pacquiao and Cotto are both very pumped up for the fight."

    this is going to be a one hell of a fight. both are champion, and both love to box not to run. expect a knock out. cotto is the bigger guy and the younger guy too (27yrs old) but manny has the faster hands and quicker foot works.(almost 31yrs old)
    cotto has all the advantance height, weight, reach, age, etc. manny only has speed. S P E E D,

    it's gonna be a hell of a fight. manny has a faster hand and a quicker foot works, but cotto is a strong puncher remember what happen to mosley,he has all the advantance and cotto still won the fight. cotto #1 borriqua de corazon.

    Manny Pacquiao will win the fight because he has the strength to stand toe to toe with Cotto and he is faster so more punches will get to cottos body if cotto thinks he can stand and fight in the center of the ring with pacquiao he will get knocked down just like hatton never underistimate pac mans speed courage and determination

    I can't believe how people are willing to display their stupidity by calling Cotto stupid in their comments. He is a true boxer willing to take the challenge and go against the best. That is what you call a REAL boxer. And lets not forget that Cotto technically did NOT loose to Margarito. Margarito is an embarresment to boxing when it was uncovered that he chose to cheat by using an illegal hardening substance within his wraps. So it's obvious that Cotto can take a solid heat if those illegal wraps did not kill him. PACMAN without a doubt has the speed, but he definetely does not have the power to take Cotto down. May the best man win.

    "ALL" true boxing fans should not even care who wins this fight. This is a treat all in itself and I would not miss it for the world. These two boxers are both at the top of their game and they both have what it takes to be a true champion. They've never dodged anyone in their career, unlike Mayweather who loves to claim he's still number one when he has been dodging the great welterweights for almost two years:
    Mosley, Margarito, Berto, Clottey and even Cotto. So how can any of you so called experts even conceive of calling Floyd p4p. He even had a chance to fight Manny, but NO, he decides to fight Marquez who has no business fighting in the welterweight division. Can someone PLEASE prove me wrong in these???

    With that said, both MC and MP deserve the respect they are receiving. Manny has made the boxing world exciting for everyone since he became pro and we shouldn't forget that this little dude started at 106lbs. I don't know about you, but that is just unthinkable. Even for him to fight and beat "The Golden Boy" at 147. Also, most of you are forgetting that boxing is not just about speed and power. It's a mind game and given the experience that Oscar has had throughout the years, even beating Julio Cesar Chavez during his later years. And what about Ricky Hatton? That whiteboy ain't no punk either. Remember that he made Kostya Tszyu quit in the 11th round. So how far do you bitches really want to go in all this? Truth is, no one really knows who will win this fight until Fight Night. All I really know is that what a great time to be alive. I can die happy after this fight because Manny has nothing else to prove to me. And Cotto, well, that mofo has balls that's why if he beats Manny it's all good because at least he was beaten by a worthy opponent.
