Hatton vs Malignaggi Post fight Press Conference Quotes

"Rome wasn't built on a day, but I think, you could see the changes that me and Floyd have been working. What I did tonight, I think, was quite impressive, bear in mind that me and Floyd had been together for only several weeks. So, I'd like to thank Floyd," said Ricky Hatton.

"It's my third time in vegas, and everytime its get better. No one is falling asleep and again I'm putting a great show. I'll be back again next week for the De La Hoya fight, so if anyone feels like they want to buy me a Guinness, they are more than welcome. I beat another world champion tonight, and one of the nicest in the sports. Wherever Paulie Malinaggi go, wish him all the best in his career," Hatton said.

"I have no excuses, Ricky did a great fight, with a game plan. Surprising me with a couple of things. I gotta say, I take my hat to him," said Paulie Malignaggi. "I'm sorry for my fans to be disappointed, but I think I'm better than being stopped, but I'm not gonna whine."

"It was a bit of a hard decisions for us to make. I talk to the corner before the round got stopped and said that I think that shouldn't go on any longer. They say give him another round. And I saw his lawyer come up to the corner and basically say the same thing. And when I realized that I wasn't the only one feeling the same way, I went to buddy and said its time," Malignaggi's promoter, Lou DiBella said.

Hatton Quotes

"I enjoyed this fight a lot more than the last time I was here," he said.

"I got frustrated in this fight, but then I hurt him early and then Floyd Sr. got me back to being me."

“Bearing in mind the awkwardness of the opponent I have only been with Floyd seven weeks and the new things I've been trying to work on, I've got to be happy with my performance.”

"I slowed down, I was more composed."

Malignaggi Quotes

"I'm better than this," Malignaggi said after the fight was by his trainer Buddy McGirt. "Maybe I wouldn't have won on points, but I'm better than being stopped."

"I wanted it stopped the round before," he said. "You could see him hurting with every punch. I wanted him around to fight another day, and a couple more rounds could have done much damage," Malignaggi's promoter, Lou DiBella said. “People asked me before the fight whether Floyd was going to make the difference, I thought zebras don't change their stripes, but tonight the friggin' zebra looked like a racehorse.”

"The reason I stopped the fight was that we were losing," he said. "My guy couldn't hurt him. We had five or six minutes left, and all it takes is one big punch. I'd rather have him be angry at me and be OK," Buddy McGirt said.

"I need to be at my best because I'm fighting my nearest rival in the division - and I will be at my best," said Hatton.

Paulie Malignaggi

"I feel like nothing can break me and don't be surprised if I stop him. But I won't be looking for a knockout, I'm a boxer first, a crafty guy."

"I don't think you can teach an old dog new tricks. He'll probably come out with a few new wrinkles, but he's been the same way for many years and there's not too many things you can change."

"But I'll be ready for anything he brings to the table, I'm not really concentrating on him, I'm concentrating on being the sharpest Paulie Malignaggi."

"I've never fought in Vegas, so for the first fight to be of this magnitude is surreal. Ever since I won the IBF title [in July 2007], it's a fight I've been looking forward to, and I'm looking forward to cashing in."

"It's a great clash of styles and personalities, but I just don't see how Hatton can win."

Ricky Hatton

"They never cease to amaze me, there's been a lot of fights to deal with recently - Joe Calzaghe in New York, David Haye last weekend - and you've got Christmas and New Year coming up, as well as the credit crunch."

"I'm very excited about what type of performance I'm going to put in, I went into training camp thinking 'am I past it, have the hard fights finally caught up with me?' But I haven't felt this good in two or three years - it could be the best Ricky Hatton there's ever been."

"It will be the same aggressive Ricky Hatton but with a lot more polish, a lot more use of the jab and a lot more awareness of punches coming back at me."

"Malignaggi will be expecting me to come out like I have in the my last few fights, all guns blazing and with no real thought.

"But Floyd has slowed me down, got me moving my head, showing angles and generally doing stuff I haven't done in recent training camps.

"Everyone who thinks I'm past it will be writing a different script after Saturday and I'd be a liar if I didn't think I could stop him."
