Pacquiao Marquez 2 Free - General Santos City
Mar 10, 2008
Pacquiao Marquez 2 promo that can only happen in the Philippines. Apparently in the hometown of Pacquiao, General Santos City, you have to buy 3 bottles of brandy in order to get a ticket to enter the Pacquiao Marquez 2 venue which is in Lagao Gym.
Stumped on whether to put this in on Live Pay Per View Tickets or Free Live in the Philippines, I choose the later, putting a disclaimer.
According to GenSantos.com: Buy three bottles of Gran Matador Brandy (worth 30 pesos per bottle) from the roving Ginebra San Miguel teams around the city and you get a free entrance ticket to the gym for the March 16 fight.
This reminds me of last year's General Santos Government press release:
General Santos City Press Release
City Hall partners with Bombo & GSMI for FREE livecast of Pacquiao Fight
On October 7, 2007, all roads lead to the Lagao Gym as the local government of Gen. Santos City once again airs the live telecast of the latest fight of its favored son, boxing champ Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao against Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera.
The city government which provided for free the live hook-up of Pacman's last two fights at its 8,000 seater air-conditioned gym, partners this time with liquour company Ginebra San Miguel, Incorporated (GSMI) and radio station Bombo Radyo Philippines.
According to Ernesto V. Quisay, Chief of Staff of the City Mayor's Office, the Mayor has earlier received a written proposal from the agency handling the GSMI account signifying their intention to show the fight via a wide screen inside the Lagao gym. This time, GSMI will cover the payment for the airing with Solar Sports through its cable agent, Skycable. Bombo Radyo on the other hand, will supervise the promotions and marketing.
"The mayor saw it as a good deal since for its part, the city government will only provide for the free use of the gym and will handle the security details and manning requirements," Mr. Quisay said, adding that, "including food for the personnel involved and other logistics like electricity and water, will be shelling out less than P40,000 only for the airing."
He also clarified that since this is mainly the project of GSMI, the company will require proofs of purchase of GSM products (bottle caps) from would-be patrons seeking to gain entrance inside the gym.
As agreed by the parties involved, the gym gates will open at exactly 7:00 am on October 7, Sunday just in time for it to fill up once the Pacquiao-Barrera II match-up commences an hour later at 8:00 o'clock. (GENSAN CITY MAYOR'S OFC - avel manansala)
