De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao - Roach talks to Brad Cooney

Here's a follow-up to Pacquiao vs De La Hoya possibility during the Sports Chat talk. This next interview is by Brad Cooney of Boxing Herald. Roach said almost the same thing as his Sports Chat interview, here's some the most interesting part of the interview:

Brad Cooney: What do you think Arum's motive is concerning Humberto Soto?

Freddie Roach: I don't understand it. Soto beat Bobby Pacquiao, but Bobby is no Manny Pacquiao. I mean, what kind of PPV draw would that fight be? We are missing the boat! Oscar has talked about fighting Manny. We can have Oscar make 147 lbs, and we can add another Mexican legend to Manny's resume.

Brad Cooney: Do you intend to call Arum and try reason with him?

Freddie Roach: I am very surprised that he hasn't called me about this Soto situation. I asked Manny if Arum talked to him about Soto, and he told me 'no.' I asked Manny if he would like to fight De La Hoya, and he told me, 'Of course,' and he then asked me about the weight, and I told him we would make Oscar make 146 lbs, and we could make the fight.

Brad Cooney: Pacquiao vs. Diaz didn't do too well in PPV. Why do you think Arum would want Soto next? That fight wouldn't do any better in PPV.

Freddie Roach: It's a tough sell, a Soto vs Pacquiao. It's not a PPV fight, it's a free HBO fight if anything. Valero can only fight in one state, and all of his fights were in Japan, so that's not a PPV fight either really. I would like to negotiate a Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar De La Hoya fight.

Brad Cooney: What would you like to say to Oscar De La Hoya?

Freddie Roach: I want to tell him that he treated me well when I was training him, but I have the better guy right now. Manny is pound for pound the best fighter in the world. Oscar likes challenges, and here is a challenge. I would never take a fight that my guy couldn't win, that's for sure. Money doesn't matter, I know Manny can win this fight!

Brad Cooney: Closing thoughts?

Freddie Roach: I read in Pacland how everybody is asking about, WHY SOTO? Well I have the same question. Let's beat De La Hoya, and then beat Hatton next year, and Manny can retire and go down as the greatest fighter of all time.

    mr. arum i beg you not to give fight soto-pacquiao nor valero-pacquiao because its non-sense, give pacquiao to fight the legends and the right boxer. pacquaio is the best p4p and best boxer of the world, why not give de la hoya, ricky hatton etc.... im sure it will sell a lot of ppv. it will make a lot of money and it will make history in boxing, think of it mr. arum...

    ummm de la hoya has to much things in his mind and sure wouldnt accept pacquio pacquio vs. mayweather would be good since both hav speed and power with de la hoya pacman would just hit back off and do the same thing mayweather did and no one wants to see that im 13 and lov boxing well maywweather is retired just to get out of the grasp of oscar

    dela hoya is not just big. aside from being big, he too has an underated speed. i think dela hoya will knok pacquiao out. maybe pacquiao is fast. but hes using his speed in offense. unlike mayweather, his a fast defensive fighter. against dela joya. pacquiao needs defense.

    When both fighters get into the ring, there is no question as to their preparedness. Both would be the most fit athletes at the moment. Given the equal basics, the factor that will now matter would be SIZE. Age would not matter anymore because the extent of physical preparation would put this factor behind and would not anymore matter. Premises considered, I will bet in favor of Oscar dela Joya. Irrespective of how the fight will be won, dela Joya will prevail or pacquiao. No loyalty bets, just an objective analysis.

    If you won't fight dela joya now, you will not gained as much popularity. Dela Joya is your vehicle to become more famous and earn more!! . . Don't let this chance pass you by because a fight against dela Joya would make you more popular, even if you will lose!!!

    Just put up a good fight, people just love to be entertained !! When you get pummelled by dela joya, you will be loved!! See how great you will become!!

    So, there!. . . Pacquiao, business and greed!!. . Hope he will still retain his faculties to his old age.

    This fight is all about money!! Manny Pacquiao has never fought against someone in the likes of Mayweather, Hopkins. .Black and strong and stylish fighters .. . DeloJoya fought these guys. . even if he lost, he has been exposed to better fighters.

    Manny don't have a similar track record. .he cannot even defeat marquez clearly!!

    If this were a kindness or loyalty check, I would opt for MP. . but it would be foolhardy to insist against the obvious. . In the words of former champion MayWeather: How will he (Pacquiao) do it?

    hey guys.. I will give you an example: Remember the fight between Manny and Diaz? Almost everyone that I talked with are saying that Diaz will win because he is bigger and stronger. But we have not yet seen them fight each other, why are they can tell that Diaz is stronger? Because that is the way Diaz fights, he is a strong fighter. But what happen now? Pacquiao won the fight clearly. So let us hope that de la Joya will become another Diaz. Let us see how will Manny do it.
